Types of Cash Grants Offered Today

Cash grants are offered for a variety of reasons today. Often it is money that is used to benefit an individual or a community in some way.

Usually the benefactor is someone who has a 501(c) (3) organization set up. This is non-profit status for tax purposes. However, it could be a person who is in charge of a certain community project or activity that is run by an organization with a good reputation who would receive the money.

In fact, the latter may be the preferred. For instance, some grants are given to young people between the ages of 14 and 25 who are not a part of a formal group or organization.

Usually they would receive the money based on their academic achievements and/or local community objectives. The best chance for young people who have excellent grades to receive this money is if it is a newer project that would benefit the local community.

Cash grants are used for a variety of purposes, such as the following:

  • To help provide equipment for a park and recreation center
  • To start a new teen outreach program
  • For improvement of local streets, including litter pickup
  • For advocacy of environmentally sound practices within a community
  • For funding of local historical and cultural research
  • To promote diversity within a community
  • For provision of educational materials to children
  • To purchase food, clothing, and shelter for people in need
  • For the establishment of a local business in an underdeveloped neighborhood

How to Apply

The application process is different depending upon for which cash grant you apply. You may be required to fill out either an online application or a print one. If not you may be required to fill out one or the other.

You also need to probably hand in a variety of other materials with your application. For instance, maybe you will have to write up a proposal. This would include your mission statement and project objectives.

If there are any visual items needed it may be necessary to take pictures or to take video. This may be needed along with additional application props, paperwork, or media required.

Usually the above-mentioned items are necessary if you are required to make a presentation as part of your proposal to receive any cash grants available. This will further convince any grant panel that the money will be put to good use.
