Disability Grants

Living with a disability can be a very difficult prospect. This is especially the case for people who were not born with a disability, but have had to adapt their lifestyle due to a particular set of events.

Often, people whose lives are suddenly interrupted by an event such as disability don't get the help they need to adjust. This is because society is not really set up to be accommodating to people who go through such things.

How Disability Grants Can Help

Thankfully, many government departments and community organizations have realized the needs of people who are disabled. Cash grants can go some way (but certainly not all the way) - to helping those people affected by disability to live a normal life once again.

The majority of disability grants these days are awarded to people in the following circumstances:

  • People who need regular assistance or care.
  • Those who are unable to work because of their disability.
  • People whose families or loved ones have been impacted by their disability.

Many of us don't really understand the impact of disability on someone's life until it is too late. Hence - it is not surprising that grants for disability purposes often receive the most "desperate" applications of all the categories.

Increasing Your Chances of Success

Unfortunately, even though the number of disability grants has increased tenfold in the last few years, there are still a number of people who are simply unable to succeed in applying for a disability grant.

There are a number of things you can do to increase your chances of being awarded a disability grant. Consider the following:

  • Go over and above the requirements of the application.
  • Provide detailed information on your case - and make it as relevant to the grant as possible.
  • Apply for multiple grants... the more you apply the higher the chances are of succeeding.

If you don't believe that you're a good writer, it might be a good idea to get someone to do the writing for you. Unfortunately, whilst grants should be based upon need rather than aesthetics, judges often look at the overall format of an application when making their decision.

Additionally, the help of a second person might bring up new ideas and help you to develop your arguments as to why you should receive the disability grant over someone else.
