Nursing grants are given out quite a bit. This is because the demand for someone working in this field is very high and more good nurses are needed. It can be a challenge to get into a nursing program though.
However, for the right individual, there is even sometimes large enough nursing grants that can cover the entire cost of schooling. This includes tuition, books, and miscellaneous expenses.
You are not always guaranteed this full coverage of educational expenses. However, it is worth it to try if you want to get into some nursing program. If you have the passion for this type of work and you have the grades you should be able to find a scholarship no problem.
In case you are wondering what types of agencies and organizations offer nursing grants here is an idea:
Private and public colleges-Nursing grants may be offered directly by schools or they might be backed by the federal government. It depends usually on the amount of the money offered by the school and this is calculated against financial aid awarded. Specialized nursing schools affiliated by certain hospitals also might fund scholarships.
Hospitals and clinics-Oftentimes a hospital or a clinic, especially larger facilities, offer nursing grants and scholarships. These are often funded by educational institutions that are associated with certain medical centers. Certain scholarships may cover the cost not only of tuition or books but also the cost of an internship.
Private foundations-Sometimes funding is provided by an outside source. It often matches or makes up the difference of federal financial aid awarded. Sometimes individuals as well as large non-profit groups will pay a person’s way through nursing school.
Federal government-The national government encourages education and study of all types. You may be able to find nursing-specific funded training. At the very least you can use grants and loans given by the federal government to help you pay for school.
Small Businesses-You never know who or where you would get your money for school. Businesses sometimes run scholarship programs. They do this because it is a great public relations tool they would use to gain exposure, and they do it because they care about the community.
Corporations-Many large companies have given out scholarships in their name. This is a promotional tool for them that could fund a great cause. You might find some big companies who will pay your way through nursing school.
